Being as an Ocean is an American melodic hardcore and post-hardcore band from Alpine, California, that formed in 2011. The ensemble was founded by the vocalist Joel Quartuccio, the guitarists Tyler Ross and Jacob Prest, the bassist Ralph Sica, and the drummer Shad Hamawe. Their debut studio album, Dear G–d..., was released (2012) through InVogue Records and reached number 27 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. They followed this with the recording How We Both Wondrously Perish (2014), which peaked at number 57 on the US charts. The group achieved international success with their eponymous third album, Being as an Ocean (2015), which reached number 56 in Germany. After signing with Equal Vision Records in 2016 and releasing the single “Dissolve”, the ensemble eventually transitioned to an independent status. Their discography includes the studio albums Waiting for the Morning to Come (2017), Proxy: An A.N.I.M.O. Story (2019), and Death Can Wait (2024). Despite the departure of founding members Ross and Sica in 2021, the ensemble has remained active.
