Biography

Barzaz, a Breton music group from France, was formed in 1988 by Gilles Le Bigot and Jean-Michel Veillon. The duo invited Yann-Fañch Kemener as lead vocalist to integrate traditional Breton chant into their music. In 1989, Alain Genty on bass and David "Hopi" Hopkins on percussion joined the group. Their debut album Ec'honder was released in 1989 under Escalibur (distributed by Coop Breizh). The group's second album, An den kozh dall, was released in 1992 via Keltia Music. Barzaz disbanded in 1997 but reunited in 2013 for a series of concerts and the release of two new tracks accompanying the reissue of their first two albums. Following Yann-Fañch Kemener's death in March 2019, Youenn Lange joined as the vocalist for subsequent performances in 2022 and at the Lorient Interceltic Festival in 2023.
