Biography
Balendra Shah, known professionally as Balen, was born 27â¯Aprilâ¯1990 in Kathmandu, Nepal, and established himself as a Nepali rapper, composer, producer, and songwriter. He released his debut single "Sadak Balak" in 2012, a track he had written in ninth grade that reflected the hardships of urban youth and marked his entry into Nepalâs hipâhop scene; his participation in the 2013 YouTube battleârap series Raw Barz raised his profile underground. In 2019 he launched the album Yatharta on 28â¯Mayâ¯2019 and released the single "Balidan", a socially conscious critique of political corruption that achieved viral status and bolstered his public standing. His followâup single "Savage" debuted 7 Septemberâ¯2020, while later releases "Neplha Haaseko Ost" (5â¯Februaryâ¯2025), "Aam Nepali Buwaa" (4â¯Januaryâ¯2026), and "Jay Mahakaali" (26â¯Marchâ¯2026) expanded his catalog. In 2025 he performed the song "Neplha Haaseko Ost" for the soundtrack of the film Laaj Sharanam, which entered YouTube trending charts upon its reârelease.
