Biography

One of the forefathers of the gangsta rap scene in his native Philippines, MC Aristotle Pollisco (October 18, 1977), aka Gloc 9, rose to fame in the early 90s as one of the members of the seminal hip-hop collective Death Threat. Hailing from the city of Binangonan in the Rizal province, Gloc 9 was invited to join Death Threat after an Andrew E. show and went on to release a string of highly-successful albums with the group, including 1997’s Kings of da Underground, which obtained quadruple platinum certification. After leaving the group in 1999, he contributed original material to a couple of film soundtracks before making his studio debut in 2003 with the album G9. The LP helped launch Gloc 9’s solo career and spawned the underground hit “Simpleng Tao.” Over the course of the next few years, the R&B-tinged Ako Si… (2005) was followed by the nu-metal stylings of Diploma (2007) and then Gloc 9 took a more mainstream approach incorporating elements from pop and rock to 2009’s Matrikula and 2011’s Talumpati. MKNM: Mga Kwento Ng Makata arrived in 2012, achieving gold certification shortly after its release. With his popularity on the rise, Gloc 9 cemented himself as one of the all-time greats of the Pinoy hip-hop scene with the albums Liham at Lihim (2013), Sukli (2016), and Poot at Pag-ibig (2021).
