Biography

Born in a Sahrawi refugee camp in Algeria, Aziza Brahim, like all her people, is inevitably marked by the interminable conflict in Western Sahara. Aziza Brahim began performing in 1995 with displaced musicians like herself, before touring the world with the group Leoyad. Settling in Spain in 2000, Aziza Brahim formed her own group in 2007, with whom she released the Mi Canto EP in 2008. In 2011, Aziza Brahim made her acting debut in the Spanish film Wilaya, for which she also composed the soundtrack. Invited in May 2012 to the WOMAD festival in Cáceres (Extremadura), Aziza Brahim released the album Mabruk in June 2012.
