Biography

Ayla Dikmen was a Turkish singer born on 25 March 1944 in Kütahya. She achieved professional recognition in 1964 as a soloist for the Şerif Yüzbaşıoğlu orchestra. She was the most rewarded singer at the second Boğaziçi Müzik Festivali (1964) and reached first place at the Balkan Melodileri Müzik Festivali (1965) with the track “Niksarın Saplings” (1965). Dikmen became inactive in the music industry following the 1980 Turkish coup d'état. She died from uterine cancer on 20 August 1990. The track “Anlamazdın” (1975) achieved posthumous popularity after being featured in the film Issız Adam (2008).
