Awesome New Republic, an American indie band from Miami, Florida, was formed at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami by Michael John Hancock and Brian Robertson. The duo's debut release, ANR So Far, combined two previously handmade studio albums and was released on October 5, 2005. The album received critical acclaim from Stereogum and was featured on Pitchfork Media with a rating of 7.9/10. Awesome New Republic shared bills with various acts including The New Deal, Girl Talk, Animal Collective, Mike Gordon, and the Benevento Russo Duo. They also played notable festivals such as Langerado in 2008 and Pop Montreal and were notably featured in an article in The New York Times about the Miami music scene. Their subsequent releases include Rational Geographic, Vol. I (2009), Rational Geographic, Vol. II (2009), and Stay Kids (2010).
