Attrition, an English dark wave band, was formed in Coventry in 1980 by Martin Bowes and Julia Niblock. The duo emerged from the experimental post-punk scene of the early 1980s, contributing to the development of industrial music in the UK. Their first release was Death House (1982), a cassette featuring two electronic soundtracks inspired by zombie films. In 1984, Attrition released their debut album, The Attrition of Reason. Julia Niblock left the band in 1985, and Martin Bowes continued with new members, releasing albums such as Smiling, At the Hypogonder Club (1985) and In the Realm of the Hungry Ghosts (1986). In 1988, they signed with Antler-Subway Records for the release of At the Fiftieth Gate. Throughout the 1990s, Attrition released several albums, including A Tricky Business (1991) and The Hidden Agenda (1993). They also toured extensively, including their first US tour in 1996. In 2006, they founded their own label, Two Gods, releasing significant works like Tearing Arms From Deities: 1980-2005, a 25th anniversary collection of material spanning their career. Notable albums include All Mine Enemys Whispers (The Story of Mary Ann Cotton) (2008), The Black Maria (2024), and Second Onslaught (2025).
