Biography

Filling their high-energy K-pop with gruff raps, trap beats, and dubstep drops, eight-member South Korean boy band Ateez arrived on the scene with hotly anticipated debut EP Treasure EP1: All to Zero in October 2018, featuring fan favourite singles “Pirate King” and “Treasure.” Their video for single “Say My Name” received over 1 million views on video-streaming platforms in the first two days of its release, and they returned again in 2019 with Treasure EP2: Zero to One, which reached number 6 in Korea and number 5 on the Billboard World Charts. That year, the band continued its prolific streak with third EP Treasure EP.3: One to All, and not one but two studio albums; their chart-topping debut full-length Treasure EP.Fin: All to Action and Treasure EP.Extra: Shift the Map. In 2020, Ateez reached the top of the Gaon charts once again with the EPs Treasure Epilogue: Action to Answer and Zero: Fever Part.1; their first release to be certified platinum in South Korea. Like many of their contemporaries, Ateez successfully crossed over into the Japanese market with the album Into the A to Z (2021), reaching number 6 on the Oricon charts. A second and third installment of the Zero: Fever series arrived in 2021, spawning hit singles “Fireworks (I'm the One)” and “Deja Vu,” which broke into the Top 5 on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart. Following the release of the extended plays Beyond: Zero, The World EP.1: Movement, and The World EP. Paradigm in 2022, Ateez achieved pole position once again in South Korea with their second single album Spin Off: From the Witness, released in December of that year. They would repeat the feat once again with their 11th EP, The World EP.2: Outlaw, which debuted atop the Circle Chart and Billboard's World Albums Chart upon its release in 2023. On February 28, 2024, Ateez released their third Japanese single, "Not Okay," which quickly climbed to number 2 on both the Oricon and Billboard Japan Singles charts. Making history as the first K-pop boy group to perform at Coachella in April that year, they released their tenth EP, Golden Hour: Part.1, in May along with the lead single "Work" and its music video. The EP achieved significant success, debuting at number 2 on the Billboard 200, Number 1 on the Billboard Top Albums Sales Chart, number 4 on the UK Official Albums Chart, and Number 1 on the UK Official Physical Albums Chart, making them the first South Korean act to secure three new top 10 titles on the UK Official Albums Chart within a year. The EP sold over 1.5 million copies in its first week, marking their fourth million-seller album. On October 1, the group introduced their fourth Japanese single titled "Birthday," which quickly climbed the charts, securing the third spot on the Billboard Japan Top Singles Sales Chart and the fourth position on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 Chart. Later, Ateez released their EP Golden Hour: Part.2 on November 15. On June 13, 2025, the group released their EP Golden Hour: Part.3 with "Lemon Drop" serving as the title track. Their full album, Ashes to Light, was released on September 17, 2025.
