Biography

South Korean K-pop group Shinee (stylized SHINee) composed of Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho, and Taemin, made its explosive debut in 2008 with mini-album Replay, followed shortly after by their first full-length studio album called The Shinee World, earning them the Newcomer Album of the Year at the 23rd Golden Disc Awards. Another mini-album, Romeo, was released in 2009, featuring the lead single "Juliette" which the group followed with chart-topping album Lucifer (with its infectious title track bringing them international recognition), cementing the group as one of South Korea’s biggest musical acts. Three years later, the mini-album Sherlock was released, and the group signed with EMI Music – Japan after an overwhelming response by Japanese fans, quickly becoming one of the most successful K-pop groups in the country. In 2013, they expanded their discography with three records The Misconceptions of You - Dream Girl, quickly followed by The Misconceptions of Me - Why So Serious? and Everybody, charting at Number 1 across South Korea and the U.S. The group returned in 2014 with I'm Your Boy, which featured several hit tracks such as "Everybody" and "Lucky Star" (reaching number 2 in Japan). In 2015, group member Jonghyun played a significant role in the success of critically acclaimed single "View," featured on the group's fourth Korean album, Odd. With a reputation for their electrifying performances, SHINee embarked on two sold-out tours, performing to over 200,000 fans, announcing their 2016 album 1 of 1, shortly after, however, tragedy struck in 2017 when singer Jonghyun took his own life on December 18, at the age of 27. Despite the immense loss, the group continued to perform, and released a new three-part record the following year titled The Story of Light, which included posthumous tracks featuring the former singer. The group announced their seventh Korean studio album Don't Call Me in 2021, propelling them once again to the top of the charts where they stayed, after the release of Superstar, in July 2021, their first Japanese EP since 2018 and fourth to top the Oricon charts. In 2023, SHINee continued to carve a prominent place for themselves on the international K-pop scene after embarking on their long-awaited major tour and topping global music charts with Hard – The 8th Album on June 26, 2023,
