Endearingly known as the "Karen Carpenter of Asia," Chinese Cantopop singer-songwriter and producer Astor Fong (Chinese: æ¹æ) boasts a three-octave vocal range that she flexes across songs in English, Mandarin Chinese, and Cantonese. She cut her teeth known as a former member of the pop band "T.J.T. (天ç¹å )" before stepping out on her own in 2008 with her solo debut ASTOR (ERSTE), which comprised covers of popular western songs. Her first Cantonese album, Close To You, which featured collaborations with the likes of Ricky Fung, Jolland Chan, Sam Hui, Goh Kheng Long, and Terence Teo, and others, emerged in 2013 and that same year she earned the aforementioned title after appearing at a tribute to the late Karen Carpenterâ In Loving Memory of Karen On Her 30th Year of Passingâat the Star Hall, Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong. Released via Universal Music, her fifth album Eyes of the Night (å¤çç¼ç) also arrived in 2013. A Singapore and Malaysia version of the album was released four years later on EQ Music.
