Asbestosdeath was an American doom metal band from San Jose, California formed in 1989 with Al Cisneros on bass, Chris Hakius on drums, and Tom Choi on guitar. Matt Pike later joined as a second guitarist. Their first release was the EP Unclean (1989), followed by Dejection (1990) released by Profane Existence. After the departure of Choi, who went on to form Noothgrush, Justin Marler replaced him and the band changed their name to Sleep. Their two releases were reissued together in 2007 by Southern Lord Records as a CD and 10" vinyl.
