Biography

Arturo Cavero Velásquez, known as Arturo "Zambo" Cavero, was born on November 29, 1940, in Lima, Peru. He began his musical journey at the age of 14, playing percussion with Juan Criado. Cavero's career took a significant turn in the 1970s when he started singing and collaborated with guitarist Óscar Avilés. Their partnership produced notable songs such as "Cada domingo a las doce, después de la misa" and "Contigo Perú", which became an unofficial second national anthem of Peru. In 1982, during the FIFA World Cup, Cavero and Avilés performed "Contigo Perú" for the Peruvian national football team. Cavero was posthumously recognized with the Order of the Sun after his death on October 9, 2009, due to complications from septicemia. His contributions to Peruvian music were celebrated nationally, which included a state funeral and declarations of mourning.
