Biography

Born in South Africa, raised in England, resident in Berlin with a British-Irish heritage, the gifted violinist Daniel Hope has a peripatetic family background which has helped him develop a style which takes its influences from a variety of sources. His grandparents fled Berlin to live in South Africa to escape Nazi oppression and his parents fled South Africa to the UK to escape apartheid. Relocating to the UK gave Hope the opportunity to study violin at the renowned Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey and he later went on to attend the Royal Academy of Music where he studied under the guidance of Zakhar Bron, the highly respected Russian violist and pedagogue. Hope was given a Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Music and later on in his career the Academy appointed him a Visiting Professor of Violin. In 2002 he became the violinist of the acclaimed Beaux Arts Trio, a well known ensemble from the USA. Hope's tenure with the trio lasted six years until increasing solo commitments led him to quit the group, after which the trio disbanded. Hope records on the Deutsche Grammophon label and is the New Music Director of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra.
