Born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, A.R. Raihanah â also known as A. R. Reihanah and Rayhanah - is a playback singer, composer, and producer who works primarily in Tamil cinema (aka Kollywood). She has also recorded songs in the Telugu and Kannada languages. A member of a musical family, she is the sister of iconic Bollywood / Kollywood singer, composer and music director A. R. Rahman and mother of actor, composer, and singer G V. Prakash Kumar. A.R. Raihanah made her playback debut in the 2001 film Chocolate, where she sang a duet with Anuradha Sriram on the song âMalai Malai.â Other highlights of her career include âMadurai Jillaâ (from 2002âs Shree), âVidai Kodu Engal Naaadaeâ (a song composed by her brother for the 2002 film Kannathil Muthamittal), âAahaa Thamizhammaâ (from 2004âs Kangalal Kaidhu Sei), and âKeda Kariâ (from 2010âs Raavanan). As a composer, she has written music for the movies Machi (2004), Pesuvathu Kiliya (2009), Manchottile Veedu (20012), and Yenda Thalaiyila Yenna Vekkala (2018), a film that she also produced. In July 2022, she collaborated with her brother, A.R. Rahman again on the song âPonni Nadhiâ (from the film Ponniyin Selvan Part-1).
