Andrew Shore is an English operatic baritone who was born in 1952 in Oldham. He studied at the University of Bristol, the Royal Northern College of Music, and the London Opera Centre. Shore began his professional career with the ensemble Opera For All, performing between 1977 and 1979. He subsequently joined Kent Opera, where he interpreted buffo roles including Antonio in the opera âThe Marriage of Figaroâ and Dr Bartolo in âThe Barber of Sevilleâ. With Opera North, his repertoire included the title roles in âKing Priamâ and âWozzeckâ. Shore has performed over 35 roles for the English National Opera, including Don Alfonso in âCosì fan tutteâ, Dulcamara in âThe Elixir of Loveâ, and Dr Bartolo in âThe Barber of Sevilleâ. In 2013, he interpreted seven baritone roles in Benjamin Brittenâs âDeath in Veniceâ. He also performed the role of Beckmesser in the 2016 production of âThe Mastersingers of Nurembergâ. Shore made his debut at the Royal Opera House in 1992 as Baron Trombonok in âIl viaggio a Reimsâ. His international appearances include his Paris Opéra debut as the Sacristan in âToscaâ (1995) and his United States debut at San Diego Opera as Dulcamara (1996). He debuted at the Metropolitan Opera as Dulcamara in 2006. Shore was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Music by the University of Bristol in 2014 and became a Fellow of the Royal Northern College of Music in 2015.
