Biography

Formed in Boulder, Colorado on December 31, 1989, Leftover Salmon is one of the most influential country‑rooted groups to emerge from the American jam band scene. They redefine how bluegrass, country, and roots music could live inside the freedom of rock and roll improvisation. Originally made up of members of Salmon Heads and Left Hand String Band, the band’s planned one-night performance became a full time career for guitarist Vince Herman and mandolin / fiddle / guitar player Drew Emmitt, the group’s founders and only constant members. Although they built their reputation as a great live act, they’ve released a series of critically acclaimed albums including Bridges to Bert (1993), Ask the Fish (1995), Euphoria (1997), The Nashville Sessions (1999), Leftover Salmon (2004), Aquatic Hitchhiker (2012), High Country (2014), Something Higher (2018), Grass Roots (2023), and Let’s Party About It (2025). Their music continues to celebrate the joy, humor, and communal spirit that have always defined the band’s music. Taken together, Leftover Salmon’s catalog documents more than longevity—it charts the expansion of modern country and Americana itself. Their albums form a through‑line from traditional string music to the open‑ended festival culture that followed, proving that roots music can stretch, evolve, and still feel like home.
