Biography

Anathallo, an American indie rock group from Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, formed in 2000 under the leadership of singer and guitarist Matt Joynt. The band released three EPs and one full-length album, Sparrows, between 2000 and 2006 while operating in a DIY manner. In 2006, Anathallo independently released Floating World, which was later re-released through Sony/BMG. The album featured songs used in television commercials, including "Yuki! Yuki! Yuki!" and "Dokkoise House (With Face Covered)". Following the success of Floating World, Anathallo relocated to Chicago and released their follow-up album, Canopy Glow, on Anticon in 2008. The album received critical acclaim and led to tours with artists such as Sam Amidon, Brand New, and Joanna Newsom, as well as performances at major festivals like Austin City Limits, Coachella, and Lollapalooza. Anathallo went on hiatus in 2009 following extensive touring.
