Amy Denio, born June 9, 1961, in Seattle, Washington, is an American musician and composer. She began her musical journey at age 12 as an autodidactic musician, initially quitting piano to start guitar. Denio attended Colorado College and Hampshire College, graduating with a B.A. in Music Composition and Improvisation in 1984. Her first recording was No Bones, released as a cassette on her record label Spoot Music in 1986. In 1987, she founded The Tiptons Sax Quartet (formerly The Billy Tipton Memorial Saxophone Quartet) and started Tone Dogs with bassist Fred Chalenor. Denio has collaborated extensively with various artists, including Matt Cameron, KMFDM, Curlew, and many others. She has performed at festivals worldwide since 1988 and has composed soundtracks for modern dance, film, and theater. Notable albums include Birthing Chair Blues (1991) and Tongues (1993).
