Biography

Amy Koita, born in 1952 in Djoliba, Mali, is a prominent Malian singer. At 17, she joined the Malian National Instrumental Ensemble, touring internationally and recording her first albums at Radio Mali's studio. Koita's breakthrough came with her participation in the Festival of Black Arts in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1977. Throughout her career, Koita released notable albums including Tata Sira (1984), and Ami Koïta (1988). In 2002, she appeared in the German television documentary Im Herzen des Lichts - Die Nacht der Primadonnen. Koita received the UNESCO Félix Houphouët Boigny Prize for her contributions to African culture and music.
