Joel Alejandro Ramos Wahl is known as a German rapper under the stage name Amaru. He grew up in Cologne and was already releasing music during his time at grammar school. His stage name honors Tupac Amaru II and signals his involvement with resistance thinking. Amaru's music is in the genre of pop rap with influences from rock, techno and R&B. He is close to the 501aesthetics collective, whose members include Rrotzer, Aleman, MCDEE and others. His debut single drop "Insert 11" is released in 2021, followed in 2022 by the bright summer hit "Blonde Chaya" together with Gringo Bamba, whose sped-up version goes viral. This is followed in July 2024 by the single "Himmelblau", produced by Scoresese, known for collaborations with Mark Forster, among others. These releases mark a rise in the German-speaking rap scene and establish Amaru as a newcomer to be taken seriously.
