Biography

Amancio Prada is a Spanish singer-songwriter and composer from Dehesas, León, born on February 3, 1949. Prada studied business in Valladolid and sociology at the Sorbonne in Paris, where he also trained in harmony and guitar. Prada debuted in December 1972 at the Théâtre Bobino in Paris alongside Georges Brassens. Prada released his first album, Vida e morte, in 1974. Prada returned to Spain in 1975 and released the albums Rosalía de Castro (1975), Caravel de caraveles (1976), and Cántico espiritual de San Juan de la Cruz (1977). Prada performs using his voice, guitar, and the hurdy-gurdy. Prada received the Medalla Castelao in 1995 and the Castilla y León de las Artes award in 2005. Prada was awarded the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes and the Premio Tenco in 2010. Prada subsequently released the albums Resonancias de Rosalía (2014) and Prada, Prada (2024).
