Biography

A Russian-born violinist based in the UK, Alina Ibragimova has made a name for herself with her critically acclaimed recordings. Born in Polevskoy in the former Soviet Union, Alina Rinatovna Ibragimova took up the violin at the age of five, studying in Moscow and then in England, when her father, double bass player Rinat Ibragimov, took up a post with the London Symphony Orchestra. She continued her training at the Yehudi Menuhin School, where her mother taught violin, then at the Guildhall School and the Royal College of Music. Winner of several competitions, including the one organized by the LSO, she has performed with numerous orchestras. In 2005, she formed the Chiaroscuro Quartet, playing on period instruments, and soon began recording under her own name. In 2009, she began an ongoing collaboration with pianist CÃ©dric Tiberghien, resulting in a series of Beethoven concerts at London's Wigmore Hall and discs devoted to Szymanowski, Ravel, Schubert, Mozart, Brahms and Mendelssohn, whose two concertos for violin and orchestra she recorded under Vladimir Jurowski in 2012. The conductor also leads the two Shostakovich violin concertos, which won a Gramophone Award in 2015. As a soloist, the violinist produced the albums Bach: Sonatas & Partitas for Solo Violin (2009), YsaÃ¿e: The 6 Sonatas for Solo Violin (2015), Paganini: 24 Caprices (2021) and Telemann: Fantasias for Solo Violin (2024), which won a Diapason d'or.
