Biography

Alien Weaponry are a trailblazing metal band from Waipu, Aotearoa, blending the raw power of thrash and groove metal with the rich cultural heritage of the Māori people. Formed in 2010 by brothers Henry de Jong (drums) and Lewis de Jong (vocals/guitar), and later joined by Tūranga Morgan-Edmonds (bass), the band have become internationally recognised for their fierce sound and commitment to telling indigenous stories through their music. What sets Alien Weaponry apart is their use of Te Reo Māori (the Māori language) in their lyrics, combined with themes rooted in New Zealand's history, colonisation, and cultural identity. Songs like “Rū Ana Te Whenua” (2015) and “Kai Tangata” (2023) have resonated deeply with fans around the world, earning them a reputation as one of the most important voices in modern metal. Since the release of their debut EP The Zego Sessions in 2014 and their breakthrough debut album Tū in 2018, Alien Weaponry have toured globally, playing major festivals like Download, Wacken Open Air, and Bloodstock, and sharing stages with acts such as Slayer, Gojira, and Ministry. Their follow-up albums, Tangaroa (2021) and 2025's Te Rā have further cemented their status as a force in heavy music—both sonically and culturally.
