Ali Thomson, born 1959 in Glasgow, Scotland, is a Scottish singer‑songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist who began performing with local bands and playing piano before relocating to London in the 1970s, where he worked for Mountain Records. In 1980, he signed with A&M Records and released his debut album Take A Little Rhythm, which entered the Billboard 200 at one hundred and ninety‑nine on 9 August 1980; its title track, "Take A Little Rhythm", peaked at fifteen on the Billboard Hot 100 and at four on the Adult Contemporary chart, while also reaching ten on the Radio & Records chart and twelve on Hitline in January 1980. The follow‑up single "Live Every Minute" reached forty‑two on the Hot 100. Thomson’s second album, Deception Is an Art (1981), produced the single "Foolish Child", which peaked at one hundred and five, and the track "Safe and Warm" did not chart. After the early 1980s, he continued to write for artists such as A1, Brian Kennedy, Steps, and Lisa Stansfield, and later released Songs from the Playroom (2019) and The Last Rodeo (2022) on P‑Vine Records, sustaining his presence in the pop music scene.
