Algareplena, an urban plena ensemble from Arecibo, Puerto Rico, was formed in 2003 with the mission of preserving and revitalizing Puerto Rican cultural sounds. Their vibrant fusion of plena, salsa, bomba, merengue, bachata, bolero, and batucada with urban genres like reggaeton and electro has made them a staple at festivals, carnivals, and patron saint celebrations. Their debut album, Algareplena, Vol. 1, released in 2016, showcased their dynamic style. In 2017, they independently released singles such as "Pa Celebrar," "El Life," and "La Fila de Gasolina," further establishing their presence in the music scene. The 2018 single "La Tabla" became a viral sensation, significantly boosting their popularity. Continuing their innovative approach, they released "El Traketeo" in 2023, blending carnival rhythms with plena to invite listeners to dance. In 2024, they launched "La Tapita," a playful track that combines plena with merengue and urban flair, resonating with audiences across Latin America and becoming a viral hit. The track also left its mark on the US lists, peaking at number 23 on the Billboard Tropical Airplay charts.
