Biography

Aldo Romano is a jazz and rock drummer born in northern Italy in 1941. Leaving his Italian home after the war, Romano's family relocated to Pairs, France where he found himself as a young man playing guitar and drums in the bars and clubs of the city. This work got him noticed by jazz legends Don Cherry and Dexter Gordon. Always keen to use eclectic forms of music, by 1978 he had brought rock into this milieu and formed the rock influenced Enrico Rava Quartet, releasing the self-titled LP in that year. From the 1970s onwards, Romano released more than 50 albums as bandleader and sideman, working extensively with saxophonist Steve Lacey and pianist Michel Petrucciani.
