Biography

Abbie Conant, born in 1955 in Tesuque, New Mexico, is an American trombonist and educator. She graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy in 1973 and studied at the University of New Mexico, Temple University, and the Juilliard School. In 1980, Conant secured the position of principal trombonist with the Munich Philharmonic through a blind audition process but faced sexism upon her selection. Despite legal battles that lasted over six years, she remained with the orchestra until 1993. She later taught at the Trossingen Conservatory and performed in over 200 cities across Europe and America. Her recordings include Posaune und Orgel (2002) and Trombone & Organ (2002).
