Biography

A Turma Do Balão Mágico was a Brazilian children’s music group between 1982 and 1986. The group was formed after 5-year-old Simony Benelli Galasso appeared on the Brazilian show Raul Gil as a singer. She was approached by producer Tomás Muñoz about starting a music duo with Vimerson Cavanillas Benedicto. They worked with songwriter Edgard Poças on their first album. After the album was finished, Muñoz recruited Michael Biggs after the boy became a media darling when he appeared on national television. The album was released in 1982 and sold over a million copies. It was followed by massively successful performances all over the country. The following year, their second album included their biggest hit “Superfantastico (Super Fantastico)” which set new sales records. This led to the group receiving their very own TV show on the channel Rede Globo. A Turma do Balão Mágico expanded its lineup with the addition of Jair Oliveira. Before the recording of their fourth album, Vimerson Canavilas Benedicto left the group and was replaced with Ricardo Batista (known as Ricardinho). New lineup changes would follow soon after. A Turma Do Balão Mágico’s fifth and final album was released in 1986, followed by a tour across Brazil. In 2018, former members Simony Benelli Galasso, Vimerson Canavilas Benedicto, and Michael Biggs reunited to perform on various television shows and concerts.
