Biography

The Halluci Nation, originally known as A Tribe Called Red, were formed in Ottawa, Ontario, by Mohawk DJ Tim “2oolman” Hill and Cayuga DJ Ehren “Bear Witness” Thomas in 2007 when they began hosting Electric Pow Wow nights that blended traditional powwow chanting with electronic beats. Their first release, the self‑titled album A Tribe Called Red in 2012, earned a long‑listed nomination for the Polaris Music Prize and launched their career. In 2013, the duo released Nation II Nation, which was shortlisted for the Polaris Prize and won Best Group and Best Album at The Indigenous Music Awards (then known as the Aboriginal Peoples' Choice Music Awards). The 2015 EP Suplex and the 2016 album We Are the Halluci Nation led to the 2014 Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year, 2017 Jack Richardson Producer of the Year, and 2018 Juno Group of the Year. The group’s activism continued with singles "Land Back" (2020) and "Voices Through Rubble" (2024), and in 2025, they became the first independent Indigenous artists in North America to surpass 100 million Spotify streams.
