Biography

Rapper and singer-songwriter Artist Julius Dubose – born in New York City, New York on December 6, 1995 – is better known by his stage name A Boogie wit da Hoodie. As a teenager, he began getting into trouble with the law mainly through low-level drug dealing and, in an effort to break the cycle of his behavior, his parents shipped him off to Florida where he was enrolled at the performance-based Preparatory Academy in Fort Pierce. After graduating, he began to focus on music and moved back to New York where he created his own label with fellow rapper Quincy Acheampong. Artist (2016), his first mixtape, led to him being identified by Forbes as an up-and-coming rapper. His debut album The Bigger Artist was released in 2017 and featured guest appearances by Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Kodak Black, and 21 Savage. The lead single “Drowning” peaked at number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and launched A Boogie wit da Hoodie's career as a rapper. By the time his second album Hoodie SZN was released in 2018, he had begun to build a significant audience for his work with the result that the album sold 90,000 copies during its first week of release and went to number 1 on the Billboard charts. His meteoric ascent to fame continued with the EPs International Artist and Love Highbridge, both released in 2018, and Artist 2.0, which topped the rap charts upon its release in 2020. A year, later A Boogie wit da Hoodie returned with the extended-play B4 AVA, reaching number 6 on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart. In December 2022, A Boogie wit da Hoodie released his fourth album, Me vs. Myself, which hit number 4 on Billboard’s 200 Albums chart while climbing to number 3 on the Rap Albums chart. In 2023, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie was featured in "Calling," the lead single from the Metro Boomin-produced soundtrack for the film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Preceded by the EP B4 BOA, his fifth studio effort Better Off Alone arrived in 2024 and featured cameos by Young Thug, Cash Cobain, Future, Lil Durk, Fridayy, and Mariah the Scientist.
