Biography

The 101 Strings Orchestra, an American easy-listening orchestra and brand, was founded in 1957 by record label mogul David L. Miller. The orchestra initially consisted of 124 string instruments and was conducted by Wilhelm Stephan. The first three albums were released in November 1957, with over 10 titles following in 1958. Notable albums include Gypsy Campfires (1958), which reached number 9 on the UK charts. In 1964, Miller sold the franchise to Al Sherman, who renamed the label Alshire and moved recording to London. The orchestra's final effort was a tribute to John Lennon in January 1981. Throughout its career, the 101 Strings Orchestra released over 150 albums.
