Biography

Zeki Müren was a Turkish singer, composer, actor, and poet born in Bursa in 1931. He developed an interest in music during his school years and studied at Boğaziçi High School before attending the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. After winning a radio competition in 1950, he made his first live radio performance in 1951 on Istanbul Radio and gained national recognition with the record "Bir Muhabbet Kuşu". In 1955, his song "Manolyam" earned Turkey’s first Golden Record Award. Known for his precise diction and influential role in Turkish classical music, he recorded over 600 records and cassettes and composed over 300 songs during a career spanning over four decades. In 1991, he was named a State Artist for his contributions to Turkish culture. Müren died while filming an episode of a television program in İzmir in 1996.
