Biography
Yves Castagnet was born in Paris on May 10, 1964, and is the choir organist at Notre-Dame Cathedral. He took up the piano at the age of five, then the organ four years later with Eliane Lejeune-Bonnier, before continuing his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in the organ classes of Rolande Falcinelli and Michel Chapuis. After winning the Grand Prix at the Chartres International Organ Competition, he was appointed titular organist at Notre-Dame Cathedral, Paris, in 1988. In addition to liturgical work for services and accompanying the singers of the Maîtrise de Notre-Dame directed by Henri Chalet, he composes and records recitals such as Dupré: Symphonies pour Orgue (1993), Vierne: Symphonies pour Orgue n° 1 & 2 (1994), Mendelssohn: Les Six Sonates pour Orgue (1997), Poulenc: Salve Regina (2007) or Noël Eternel (2018). In 2002, he composed a Messe Salve Regina, premiered in 2007, and in 2024, a Magnificat for the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral after the fire of April 2019.
