James McVinnie, born on January 13, 1983, in the United Kingdom, is an English organist and pianist. He trained under Sarah Baldock, Thomas Trotter, and Hans Fagius, holding positions at St Paul's Cathedral, St Albans Cathedral, and Clare College, Cambridge. James McVinnie served as Assistant Organist of Westminster Abbey from 2008 to 2011. His debut album Cycles, featuring music by Nico Muhly, was released in 2013 on Bedroom Community. In 2014, he made his debut at London's Royal Festival Hall, performing one of the six reopening recitals on the refurbished Harrison & Harrison organ. James McVinnie has collaborated with notable figures including Philip Glass and Tom Jenkinson/Squarepusher, resulting in albums such as The Grid (2018) and All Night Chroma (2019). He also recorded works of Samuel Sebastian Wesley in Organ Works (2007), John Tavener in Ex Maria Virgine (2008), Ralph Vaughan Williams in Sacred Choral Music (2010), Meredith Monk, Laurie Spiegel, John Adams, and Bryce Dessner in Dreamcatcher (2025), Tristan Perich in Infinity Gradient (2025), and Johann Sebastian Bach in Clavier-Ãbung III (2026).
