Biography

Yuri Tanaka, born on January 3 in Fukui Prefecture, is a versatile Japanese vocalist whose foundation lies in classical voice but whose career spans jazz, pop, and soundtrack work. She made her major debut in 2008 as the lead vocalist of jazz band BLU-SWING, earning attention for her refined tone and emotive delivery. With the band, she has performed internationally, including appearances at Japan Festivals across Asia and supporting world-renowned violinist Vasco Vassilev at the Royal Opera House in London. Tanaka is known for her involvement in a variety of musical projects, including contributions to Square Enix’s Mobius Final Fantasy soundtrack, and collaborations with artists like Tatsuo Sunaga, Uyama Hiroto, and re\:plus. She also lent her voice to commercial recordings, including for the KDDI au design project MEDIA SKIN, and penned lyrics for NHK’s program Shumi no Engei. In 2013, she participated in the prestigious Shikinen Sengu ceremony at Ise Shrine, a rare honor for musicians. Her 2016 release City Lights blends sophisticated city pop with jazz influences, highlighting her evolution as a solo artist.
