Biography

Active since the late 1970s, Yordano is a Venezuelan singer whose combination of pop, tropical, and Latin music has earned multi-platinum success in his home country. He was born as Giordano Di Marzo Migani in Rome, Italy, on October 27, 1951, then moved to Caracas at the age of three. While studying architecture at the Central University of Venezuela, he began earning a reputation as a talented songwriter. Migani began playing local shows as frontman of the band Sietecuero in 1978, then signed with Polygram as a solo artist and released his full-length debut album, Negocios son Negocios, in 1982. Two years later, he adopted his stage name and released the self-titled Yordano. The album was a success in the Caribbean and South American markets, with tracks like "Manantial de Corazón" and "Otra Cara Bonita" becoming hits. Following the release of 1986's Jugando Conmigo, 1988's Lunas, and 1990's Finales de Siglo, he reached a new milestone with 1992's De Sol a Sol. The album's most successful track, "Por estas calles," became the theme song of a popular Venezuelan telenovela of the same name. Appearing in more than 600 episodes of the show, "Por estas calles" became a Number 1 pop hit in Venezuela, remained at the top of the charts for months, and vaulted Yordano to superstar status. He remained prolific throughout the rest of the decade and continued releasing albums during the twenty-first century, as well, often exploring other influences. 2000's ¡Qué Lindas Son! focused on Cuban music, while 2008's triple-platinum El Deseo explored rock & roll influences. Released in 2012, Sueños clandestinos earned Yordano a Latin Grammy nomination for "Best Singer-Songwriter Album," while albums like 2016's El Tren de los Regresos and 2020's Despues de Todo found him working with Sony Music after years of independent releases.
