Biography
Yoko Kawakubo is a Japanese violinist who was born in 1979. She studied the modern violin at the Toho-Gakuen School of Music before focusing on the baroque violin at the National University of Fine Arts and Music and the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Lyon. Kawakubo established the ensemble Les Timbres in 2007 and has collaborated with musical groups including Gli Incogniti and Bach Collegium Japan. She achieved a career breakthrough in 2009 after winning the first prize at the Festival de musique ancienne de Bruges. Her discography includes the recordings Pièces de clavecin en concerts (2014), which received a Diapason d'Or, and La Gamme & autres morceaux de simphonie pour le violon, la viole et le clavecin (2022). Her later releases include the studio album Six Trio (2025). Kawakubo currently serves as a professor of baroque violin at the Conservatoire de Lyon.
