Biography

Yohani Diloka De Silva aka Sri Lankan popstar and rapper Yohani has earned her title of "Rap Princess of Sri Lanka" through viral hits and emotional relatability. Born on July 30, 1993 in Colombo, Sri Lanka to ex-army officer, Major general Prasanna De Silva and ex Sri Lankan Airlines air hostess Dinithi De Silva, Yohani's mother encouraged her to follow her musical dreams and she began her singing career on YouTube. Her 2017 acoustic guitar cover of "Deviyange Bare" by Sri Lankan rappers Drill Team Westnahira helped to raise Yohani's profile online and she released a number of other covers via YouTube that gained traction, including “Pana Senehas" by Dushyanth Weeraman in 2019. In February 2020, Yohani became a brand ambassador for Red Bull Sri Lanka and was one of nine artists selected to perform alongside key names in the Sri Lankan music industry, including Bathiya and Santhush (BnS). May 2021 saw Yohani secure global recognition and achieve a viral hit for her May 2021 cover of "Manike Mage Hithe" by Satheeshan Rathnayaka. She became Sri Lanka's first female singer to yield two million YouTube subscribers and that same year finished recording her debut album Sinhala.
