Biography

Sakurazuka Yakkun (real name: Yasuo Saitō, born September 24, 1976 – died October 5, 2013) was a multifaceted Japanese entertainer known for his work as a comedian, voice actor, actor, and singer. Born in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, he gained national attention through his cross-dressing comic persona, characterized by exaggerated behavior and sharp comedic timing. He made his musical debut on July 19, 2006, with the single "Gekimaji Mukatsuku", which he wrote himself and which peaked at #23 on the Oricon chart. His follow-up single, "1000% SO Zakune?", released in October of the same year, reached #18. Although he was reported as a potential solo male participant in the 2006 NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen representing the Red Team (a rare honor), he ultimately appeared only as a supporting guest. In 2010, he became the lead vocalist of the visual kei band Bijo♂men Vlossom (later Bijo♂men Z), formed through the TBS program Music Birth. Their debut track was a cover of SHAZNA’s "Melty Love", produced by Toshihiko Takamizawa. His album SAKURA Kakumei, released in 2007, peaked at #40. Known for blending comedy and music with flamboyant theatricality, Sakurazuka Yakkun left a distinctive mark on Japan’s pop and entertainment culture before his untimely death in 2013.
