Biography
Active between 1978 and 1982, Australian band XL Capris was formed around Julie Anderson (aka Nancy Serapax), Tim Gooding (Errol Cruz), Johanna Pigott (Alligator Bagg) and Kimble Rendall (Dag Rattler). A product of Sydney's punk scene, the group of architecture students made a name for themselves with their cult debut single, a cover of American crooner Tommy Leonetti's "My City of Sydney". Released in 1979, the track propelled XL Capris onto the airwaves, as well as onto television with a video shot in a hotel room. The track became a favorite of British DJ John Peel. This was followed in 1980 by the only chart hit "World War 3" (No. 98), and then two albums released in 1981, Where Is Hank? and Weeds for Axle Records. There were several changes in the line-up, which split up in 1982. Having left in 1981, Kimble Kendall went on to play with Hoodoo Gurus before becoming the director of two feature films in the Matrix saga and other films in the 2000s. He will die on April 20, 2025.
