Biography

The Fairey Band, originally formed in 1937 as the Fairey Aviation Works Band by employees of the Fairey Aviation factory in Heaton Chapel, Stockport, began by performing traditional brass band music and competing in national contests. In the mid-1960s, the name was shortened to the Fairey Band, and the band went on to achieve notable success, including multiple National Champions of Great Britain titles (1945, 1952, 1954, 1956, 1965, 1986, 1993, 2002, 2003) and British Open Champions. The band's repertoire expanded to include electronic music and pop, notably with the release of Acid Brass in 1997. Despite changes in sponsorship and name reverting back to its original name, The Fairey Band, in 2011, the band continued to perform and compete.
