Biography
William Clarke started performing in Los Angeles-area clubs in 1967 and partnered with George "Harmonica" Smith in 1977. His first album, Hittin' Heavy (1978), was released with Hollywood Fats. Clarke collaborated with Junior Watson and toured with Rick Holmstrom from 1985 to 1988. In 1990, he signed with Alligator Records, releasing Blowin' Like Hell (1990), which won a W.C. Handy Award for Blues Song of the Year for "Must Be Jelly". His health declined, and he died on November 2, 1996, following a performance in Fresno, California. Posthumous albums include Deluxe Edition (1999).
