Biography

Wilfried Scheutz was born on 24 June 1950 in Goisern, Upper Austria, and became a singer and songwriter. After early schooling in Bad Goisern and Gmunden, he formed his first band, The Provos, at fourteen and later studied in Graz. He began his professional music career as a bassist with Moses and sang on "Sad Song" / "Mexican Dessert" with Hide & Seek. Scheutz began a solo career under the name Wilfried, releasing his eponymous debut album in 1974. He followed this with Nights in the City (1979) and Make-up (1980), which reached number 19 on the Austrian Top 40. He also founded the a capella agroup 4Xang and the jazz formation Fathers’n’Sons, and appeared in the television series Die Leute von St. Benedikt. Scheutz died on 16 July 2017 in Lilienfeld, Lower Austria. In 2018, he was posthumously honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the Amadeus Awards.
