Biography

The Wiener Streichsextett, also known as Vienna String Sextet, was founded in 1981 in Austria. The ensemble aimed to preserve the traditional Viennese sound in string sextet and quintet literature. Their career began with extensive European tours, followed by invitations to perform in New York and Japan. They were frequent guests at prominent festivals such as the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival, Salzburg Festival, Vienna and Berlin Festwochen, and Edinburgh Festival. In 1994, they premiered Richard Strauss' Metamorphosen in its original version for string sextet and double bass.
