Biography

An R&B singer who came to prominence at the height of the New Jack Swing wave, Wendy Moten then turned to jazz and country soul. Born in Memphis on November 22, 1964, she was discovered during the recording of a radio theme song, and was invited to sing with Michael Bolton at a charity concert in New York, before opening for him on tour. Signed to the EMI label, she records a debut album of the same name, with the single "Come In Out of the Rain", her biggest hit, reaching #55 on the Billboard Hot 100, #8 in the U.K. and #1 in Japan, where the singer is more popular. The next two albums, Time for Change (1995) and Life's What You Make It (1996), featuring the Japanese hits "Your Love Is All I Know", "Change of Heart" and "Life's What You Make It", were acclaimed in Japan . After a 2009 album of Christmas songs, Tis the Season, the singer changed registers on Timeless: Wendy Moten Sings Richard Whiting (2014), before tackling country covers on I've Got You Covered (2020).
