Biography

Walter Murphy has a highly original career path. Coming from a jazz background, he went on to compose jingles for television and commercials. In 1976, at the request of a producer, he recorded a disco track based on Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. Entitled "Fifth of Beethoven", the track became a hit in the U.S., where it was even a short-lived number one. in 1977, "Fifth of Beethoven" appeared on the soundtrack of the cult film Saturday Night Fever, alongside hits by The Bee Gees and MFSB. Walter Murphy continued in this vein for a while with the albums Rhapsody in Blue (1977) and Phantom of the Opera (1978). Walter Murphy then returned to jingles and TV series, before releasing his first soundtrack for a feature film, Ted , in 2012.
