Biography

The German-Greek singer Vicky Leandros was born in Corfu on 23 August 1952. In July 1965, she released her debut single "Messer, Gabel, Schere, Licht ", which reached number 16 in the charts in Germany. Her debut album Songs and Folklore was released in October 1966, before she went on to represent Luxembourg at the 1967 Eurovision Song Contest. After several hits in Europe and overseas, she took part in the Grand Prix again in 1972 and not only reached first place with the song "Après toi (Dann kamst du)" , but also achieved great commercial success. More than 7.8 million copies of the single were sold. In Germany, her biggest hit was released in 1974 under the title "Theo, wir fahr'n nach Lodz". From the late 1960s to the mid-1980s in particular, Vicky Leandros released most of her singles not only in German, but also in Greek, English, French, Dutch, Japanese and Spanish. With this concept, she also achieved chart success in France, Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, Spain, Latin America and Japan. In 1998, she had another burst of success with "Weil mein Herz Dich nie mehr vergisst", the German recording of the theme music to the film Titanic. Over the course of her career, the singer has sold over 55 million records worldwide. In German-speaking countries, she is one of the most successful female artists since the introduction of the charts, even when compared with her international competitors.
