Biography
Vicente GarcÃa (born March 30, 1983, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) first gained recognition as the lead singer of the Dominican funk-infused band Calor Urbano before launching a solo career in 2011. His debut album Melodrama (2010) blended sophisticated bachata with Caribbean and soul influences, while his sophomore album A La Mar (2016), co-produced with Eduardo Cabra, integrated merengue, reggae, Gagá, and folk rhythmsâearning him three Latin Grammy wins, including Best New Artist, Best Singer-Songwriter Album, and Best Tropical Song for âBachata en Kingston.â His 2019 album Candela explored Dominican merengue more deeply, yielding the acclaimed single âAhà AhÃ,â which was nominated for Record of the Year while the album itself was nominated for Best Contemporary Tropical Album and also for a Latin Grammy. In 2022 he released the Latin Grammy-winning Camino al Sol, followed by Desde Otro Malecón in 2023, both highlighting his experiment with introspective folk textures and continued fusion of Caribbean sounds. Puñito de Yocahú, his fifth studio album, came out in 2025.
