Biography

Veretski Pass is an American klezmer trio based in the United States that utilizes traditional instrumentation, including accordion, violin, tsimbl (cimbalom), and bowed double bass. The group consists of Cookie Segelstein (violin, viola), Joshua Horowitz (accordion, tsimbl), and Stuart Brotman (bass, baraban, flute). All three members possessed extensive experience in the klezmer scene prior to forming the group, having performed in prominent ensembles such as Budowitz and Brave Old World. The band released its self-titled debut album, Veretski Pass, in 2004 on Golden Horn Records. This was followed in 2008 by Trafik and in 2011 by The Klezmer Shul. In 2015, the trio collaborated with Joel Rubin to release Poyln, A Gilgul. A second collaboration with Rubin followed in 2019 titled The Magid Chronicles, which drew on the ethnographic research of Sofia Magid. Notable career highlights include a performance at the Concertgebouw Concert Hall in Amsterdam in March 2006.
